Interview Tips
Prior to Interview
- Research the organisation by looking at their website and reading news, also investment news if available.
- Research the structure of the interview will there be any technical, aptitude or psychometric tests.
- Make sure you know exactly where the interview is being conducted and plan your route well in advance.
- Make a list of questions that you need to ask and consider taking the list into the interview
- Prepare answers for a range of standard interview questions such as “Why do you want to work for us”, “What do you know about our company” and “what are your strengths and weaknesses”
- Take any references or relevant sales figures
- Always dress formally for the interview, wear a dark suit.
- Leave extra time for delays before travelling.
- Ask your consultant for advice.
At the interview
- Turn off your mobile phone
- When you meet the interviewer stand up, smile and say hello and introduce yourself with a firm hand shake.
- Body language is important, make eye contact, sit up straight and smile Don't talk to much but do not answer questions with yes no. Always go into details but do not waffle.
-
- Demonstrate your ability for the role by producing references or previous work.
- Towards the end of the interview always try to get direct feedback from the interviewer (e.g. how closely do you feel my experience matches what you are looking for?"). This is really important because it will tell you whether the interviewer has any reservations about you and will enable you the opportunity to overcome their reservations and re-answer the relevant points.
At the end of the interview if you want the job tell them and what you like about their company and where you see yourself fitting in.
